Did you know that almost 80% of firefighters, law enforcement officers, and EMTs are credentialed at community colleges?

Fire Academy students receive training in helicopter transport
Rob Smith was ready for a new career. He considered several fields but loved the idea of being a firefighter. He learned that a certificate from Durham Tech's Fire Academy opens doors, with graduates enjoying excellent job placement rates.
"One of the the things I loved about the Fire Academy was physical training every morning," said Smith. "It was huge help when it came time for a physical agility test for a job." Smith said the instructor's professional experience made them great teachers and all his courses interesting.
"One of the reasons I chose this profession was to make a difference in the city where I work," he said. "I also want a job that is challenging, both physically and mentally." Another plus is the diversity of his duties, he said. "You always have to stay alert and be ready for whatever might be thrown at you."
