Learn Spanish at Durham Technical Community College. The
Continuing Education Division offers classes in four levels of
Beginning Spanish. These levels become progressively more advanced,
building on the skills learned from the prior course. Spanish I and II
are designed for students with no or little previous exposure to the
Spanish language. Spanish III and IV are more advanced and help better
prepare you for the specialized or intermediate-level course. These
courses allow you to gain the fundamentals necessary to pursue further

This courses uses, ¡Trato hecho!, an innovative beginning Spanish program that emphasizes the features of the vocabulary needed for everyday communication in students’ communities or in the workplace. The course provides materials that are organized into compact and functional sections that students can use to test their abilities and apply new material before progressing to the next level. The course also fosters students’ understanding of Hispanic cultures and their growing importance in the world by providing contexts that emphasize the usefulness of Spanish in daily life in North America as well as when traveling around the world. Audio components are infused throughout the coursework so the students can listen to vocabulary and grammar as well as practice with models for pronunciation.
A Spanish-English dictionary of the student’s choice is strongly suggested. Textbook required. Required prerequisites: At least a minimal beginning level of Spanish proficiency will help students receive the most benefits from this structured, self-paced, and self-motivated course.
