Job Title:

Pharmacy Technology Instructor (Full-time, 9 months with full benefits)

Reports to:

Program Director, Pharmacy Technology

Duties and Responsibilities:

The instructor of Pharmacy Technology is primarily responsible for the planning, delivery, and evaluation of classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction, and for providing those related services and support activities required for optimal student learning and effective educational programming. As a member of the Pharmacy Technology faculty, the instructor is also accountable for assisting and supporting the clinical coordinator, program director, and/or department dean, as needed, in meeting the instructional and curricular requirements of the program, department, and division. More specifically, and consistent with the employee's current contract of appointment, the instructor is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Teaching all courses as assigned, for the full duration of scheduled instruction;
  2. Being fully prepared with instructional plans for each class session and in accord with the stated objectives of the course;
  3. Enforcing academic policy and procedures at all times, and complying with all other institutional rules and regulations pertinent to classroom instruction and general employment;
  4. Being available out of class to students requiring additional assistance;
  5. Assisting as an educational advisor to students, as formally required and as otherwise requested or needed by individual students;
  6. Assisting in the revision and development of course outlines, syllabi, curriculum plans, and other instructional documentation required to meet program objectives;
  7. Contributing to the development and implementation of competency-based education and for utilizing available educational resources for the improvement of instruction and the creation of teaching materials;
  8. Assisting the program director and clinical coordinator in the identification, preview, and acquisition of needed educational resources, including textbook selection, library materials, laboratory supplies, and other instructional provisions;
  9. Participating in advising activities, as assigned, and assisting in the recruitment of students and in the placement of graduates;
  10. Participating in program, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and other announced activities;
  11. Maintaining complete office and student records, as needed; processing reports, forms, and all other required paperwork in a timely, efficient manner, checking for the accuracy, correctness, and completeness of all data;
  12. Maintaining posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations, as well as to meet the needs of the program, department, division, and College;
  13. Taking advantage of in-service training and other opportunities for continued professional development, including attendance at off-campus activities, as feasible, and generally staying abreast of developments in the field of instruction;
  14. Assisting in the scheduling of appropriate clinical rotations to assure fair and equal scheduling of students for all clinical related activities;
  15. Assisting the Program Director with regular visitation of each affiliated agency where students receive clinical experience to assure adequacy of instruction and record keeping;
  16. Assuming other necessary responsibilities and performing additional tasks as assigned by the program director and/or department dean in meeting the needs of the program, department, division, and the College;
  17. Additional duties will include other appropriate activities as assigned by the HT Dean, the appropriate Chief Division Officer, and/or the President.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  1. The instructor should have a baccalaureate degree in Pharmacy and be a registered pharmacist with the North Carolina State Board of Pharmacy, or should have a diploma from a Pharmacy Technology program or possess an associate degree and be a certified pharmacy technician.
  2. The instructor should be an active member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the state affiliated chapter of the Society, or an active member of the American Association of Pharmacy Technicians and the state affiliated chapter of the Association.
  3. The instructor should have at least three years of work experience in a pharmacy meeting the requirements of the Minimum Standards of Pharmacies in Institutions
Normal Work Hours:

The pharmacy technology instructor is required to work a minimum of forty (40) hours per week according to a flexible schedule designed to provide the necessary instructional coverage.
