Student Senate

Christine Wright Christine Wright, Student Senate President

The Student Senate is the local Student Government Association at Durham Tech.The Senate is the voice of the community college student on campus.

Amigos Unidos (Spanish Club)
An organization open to all students desiring to further their knowledge about the Spanish culture, people and language. It is a social group of students, many of whom are taking Spanish, who promote awareness of Hispanic culture on campus through activities. The club also supports activities of a service nature, raising funds for Hispanic and non-Hispanic families.

Durham Early Childhood Association
An organization open to all persons who are concerned about the emotional, health, intellectual, physical and safety needs of young children.

Gamers of Durham
The purpose of the Gamers of Durham is to promote all forms of legal recreational gaming, promote fellowship, help broaden information about the gaming business and technology, and serve as an advocate for gamers on related issues at the College. The club provides a forum for students, faculty, and non-student gamers to come and teach or play games. The types of games include, but are not limited to, video games, computer games, card games, collectible card games, role-playing games, and board games.

Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society
A scholastic honor and educational-service organization for students in colleges and universities. The organization objectives are "to recognize and encourage excellence in education, to promote the development of leadership ability and character in its members, and to foster, disseminate, and improve education through appropriate service projects."

International Students Club
An organization developed to facilitate the exchange of information about different cultures through regular meetings and other activities.

The International Students Club will continue to sell small Indian bags, Indian bangles, and raffle tickets for an engraved metal plate. These items were displayed at the recent Winterfest and will be available until the end of March. The proceeds will help to support the Symbiosis School in India, a school that provides free education to children who otherwise would not have an educational opportunity. They can be purchased by contacting Afreen Aleem, Leopoldo Munguia, Margaret Newhouse or Karin Abell.

Literary Guild
An organization that provides opportunities for members of the Durham Tech community to experience area literary and cultural events. The Literary Guild is the publisher of The Final Draft Literary Journal, a compilation of poetry, artwork, essays, and short stories written and created by students, staff, and faculty which is published each summer (July/August). Beginning writers and artists are especially encouraged to submit material. The staff is comprised of students and instructors who judge the work submitted, edit the works, and publish the final product. In addition, the Literary Guild encourages group participation in community literacy projects.

Magnus

Magnus is the student organization dedicated to producing the newsletter of the same name.  Magnus allows students to showcase their talents and get their work published.  Any student interested in writing, photography, drawing (especially comics), layout, or desktop publishing should consider joining.

NOVA
Nova is Latin for new, and that's what we're about: new ideas, new opinions and new people. Nova is a weekly discussion group focused on bringing students together to share opinions and ideas. We are run by students and all you have to do to become a member is show up.

Paralegal Technology Club
he Paralegal Technology Club is an association for paralegal students created to promote scholarship, increase awareness of the paralegal profession, and provide information and opportunities for prospective employment.

Phi Beta Lambda
The purpose of Phi Beta Lambda is to provide opportunities for post-secondary students to develop business-related career competencies. Phi Beta Lambda is an integral part of the instructional program and in addition promotes a sense of civic and personal responsibility.

Practical Nursing Student's Organization
An organization that provides an opportunity for practical nursing students to receive regular communication and to voice their concerns relevant to their profession.

Respiratory Therapy Students Club
The Respiratory Therapy Students Club is an organization to promote the profession of respiratory therapy through communication, fund-raising, and participation in other activities on campus and in the community.

Science Club
A club that provides an outlet for students who are interested in majoring in a science related field.

Sigma Delta Mu
An honor society recognizing outstanding students in the Spanish curriculum.

Single Parent Club

The Single Parent Club provides the opportunity for single parent students to be part of a support system that addresses parenting, academic, professional, and social needs.

S.O.A.R.
The Sports, Outdoor, Adventure and Recreation club provides opportunities for students, faculty and staff to interact and learn various recreational activities.

Spectrum

Spectrum is an organization whose mission is to advocate for and support the needs of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, and Allies people on the DTCC campus. Spectrum provides a framework to raise awareness through educational advocacy and community involvement while working to dismantle oppression in all its forms.

VISIONS: Minority Male Leadership Initiative

Durham Technical Community College’s Minority Male Leadership Initiative known as “VISIONS” encourages participants to excel academically, promote personal and professional development, stay in college, graduate, and achieve their goals through ongoing support programming. The fundamental purpose of the initiative is achievement.

Women's Leadership Initiative

The Women's Leadership Initiative is an organization open to all female students. This organization is designed to support, encourage, and celebrate the contributions that female students can make to the College Campus. The primary focus will be on skill development in the areas of leadership, mentoring, and networking on campus and in the Triangle community we serve. If you are looking to build a reservoir of self esteem, self worth, elegance, grace, strength and intellect come join us!
