How do I apply for financial aid?
First, submit your financial aid application online. If you are interested in applying for financial aid, complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at www.fafsa.ed.gov . Make sure you include Durham Tech's school code, 005448, so the college will receive your information. You will need your previous year's tax information with you when you begin the application, so it's a good idea to complete and file your taxes early and then fill out the FAFSA form as soon as you complete your taxes. The FAFSA application itself can take up to an hour to complete, and the full financial aid process from start to finish can take up to a few months. Start now.
Next, complete all additional steps and submit your documentation. There is additional documentation, besides the FAFSA application, required by Durham Tech. This also must be completed prior to the institutional deadline. Students must understand that even though you receive a notice from the federal government that you are eligible for financial aid, you still have additional steps to complete the process and receive your funds. Information regarding additional or missing paperwork necessary to complete your financial aid application can be found in the "My Documents" section of your WebAdvisor account. Be proactive, and check this area constantly. Submit all requested documentation at once and prior to the deadline so that you can receive your award in time to use your financial aid to pay for tuition and books.
Do not stop checking until your award shows up in the "Financial Aid" section of your WebAdvisor account or until you receive notice that aid has been denied.
It is also important to understand that even if you miss the deadline for applying for financial aid for the upcoming semester, you should still complete your application. If you are approved, you can still receive your benefits after the semester begins, but you most likely will not receive aid in time to pay your tuition and buy your books. Therefore, if you do not complete ALL required documentation for your application prior to the deadline for any given semester, you should be prepared to pay up front for that semester's tuition, fees, and books on the first date that tuition is due according to your registration priority date.
Visit the Financial Aid section in order to be sure you have the most up-to-date information regarding the steps necessary to apply for financial aid. Please take the time to review that information before taking the quiz.
