New loan applicants (Durham Technical Community College students who have never had a Direct Loan) are required to complete the following four steps to be considered for a student loan. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed before you can complete these steps.
Step 1: Complete Entrance Counseling
Complete the required Entrance Counseling online.
Step 2: Complete your Electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN).
Fill out your electronic eMPN online at www.studentloans.gov.
Step 3: Attend a Loan Entrance Workshop at Durham Tech.
All new borrowers at Durham Tech must attend a one-hour workshop before their loan request can be processed. Loan workshops are held throughout the academic term. Workshop times alternate between morning and afternoon sessions. Below are the dates, times, and locations for Spring 2016.
Please Note: The workshop will begin promptly at the times listed below. No one will be admitted once they have begun.
|Thursday, April 21||6 p.m.||GlaxoSmithKline Technology Center, room 900|
|Friday, April 29||10 a.m.||GlaxoSmithKline Technology Center, room 900|
Step 4: Complete the loan authorization form
The Loan Authorization form is distributed at the Durham Technical Community College Loan Workshop. You may submit the form at the workshop or turn it in to the Financial Aid office once complete. All sections, including the budget worksheet, must be completed to be considered for a loan.
Students who have received a loan from Durham Tech and who wish to continue to receive a loan must reapply for each academic year. Students who have previously borrowed at Durham Technical Community College (only) may complete the Loan Authorization form online and then print and submit the signed form to the Financial Aid office, Phail Wynn, Jr. Student Services Center, room 1210. The FAFSA must be completed and all follow-up paperwork submitted before the Financial Aid office can accept your loan request. Since you have previously received a loan from Durham Tech, a new eMPN, Entrance Counseling, or attending a Durham Tech Loan Workshop is not required.
