Foundation Grants
Donations to the Durham Technical Community college Foundation enable the
college to award grants that improve instructional programs and directly
benefit students. |
| $5,247 to Health Technologies and Practical Nursing
The Foundation contributed $5, 247 for the purchases of materials that
help Practical Nursing students improve their performance on the NCLEX-PN
licensure exam. The assessment materials help students improve patient
admissions screening, critical thinking, and clinical content mastery,
as well as prepare for the NCLEX exam.

$3,825 to the Online Medical Technology Certificate Program
With a national shortage of medical coders, Durham Tech's Medical Coding
courses needed updating and increased availability. This grant funded the
cost of expanding Medical Coding I, Medical Coding II, and Medical Insurance
and Billing courses. |
$1,600 to Associate Degree Nursing
Officials at Durham Tech noticed a decrease in student retention following
the first two nursing courses, NUR 110 and NUR 120. Research shows that
identifying student weaknesses prior to admission in the ADN program and
providing intervention strategies to address the weaknesses increases student
retention. Through this grant, the college purchased a diagnostic test to
identify the special needs of new nursing students. Students then use college
resources and services to improve their skills. |
$2,000 to Social Sciences and Humanities
The Social Science/Humanities discipline in the Arts, Sciences, and University
Transfer Department has developed a new Global Citizen program. This grant
provides a $1,000 scholarship to a student in this new program. |
