Joycelyn
Sale came to Durham Tech to train for a second career as a crime
scheme investigator. "Receiving a scholarship means that an outsider
believes in me and my goals for the future. I truly feel blessed being
able to spend more quality time with my family by not having to work as
hard to pay for my education. I thank those who have afforded me the opportunity
to pursue new ambitions."
Paul
Tilley was so inspired by his mother's life's work as a nurse that
his goal was to join her in the field. "Like many of my peers at
Durham Tech, the greatest challenge I face in continuing my education
is not one of academic performance, but of financial difficulty. Were
it not for scholarship assistance, it would have been impossible to continue
my education and enter a career in desperate need of employees -- nursing."
Carmella
Blakney, a 1998 graduate of Riverside High, is a junior majoring
in business marketing at Meredith College. "The scholarships I received
at Durham Tech were instrumental in my successful pursuit of higher education.
Not having to stress over how to pay for my education helped me focus
more on academics and contributed to my academic success."
Yefris
Rodriguez is now a machinist for an electronics lab. He credits
his positive academic experience to lots of personal attention and small
classes, with scholarships relieving the bulk of his financial burden.
"Durham Tech kept me on track to finish my coursework on time without
having to increase my hours at work. My advisor and instructors motivated
me to succeed. I love my job and have been recognized for my performance."
