DURHAM — Two members of Durham Technical Community College's Math Team placed first in the team competition and second in overall competition during the recent Gainesville Math Tournament in Gainesville, Ga.
The tournament drew 23 teams from two-year colleges throughout the South and Southeast.
Durham Tech student Tim Pluta finished second in the individual competition in a field of 71. Arun Sivasankaran also represented the college's Math Team.
Durham Tech won the team competition by providing the correct formula to the following question: For a given n-sided polygon with n greater than or equal to 4, find the length of its shortest diagonal.
