Durham Tech Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) students, along with their advisors, joined approximately 300 other PBL members in participating in the 54th North Carolina State Leadership Conference in Raleigh, N.C. the weekend of April 11 – 13. The conference included 62 competitive events, leadership workshops, state elections, and networking opportunities. Durham Tech's PBL brought home 10 awards, including four first-place plaques.
First Place:
Account Principles – Emily Vargas
Business Decision Making – Wayne Faust and Gary Bradley Hodges
Help Desk – Briant Davis
Job Interview – Gary Bradley Hodges
Second Place:
Microeconomics – Emily Vargas
Third Place:
Computer Concepts – Amiris Brown
Fifth Place:
Desktop Publishing – Amiris Brown and Briant Davis
Eighth Place:
Public Speaking – Wayne Faust
The PBL chapter also won the Terry Lowrance Leadership Award. This award is given to chapters who complete at least 20 required events that focus on the words in the PBL crest: Service, Leadership, and Progress. The award was presented by Kay Lowrance. In addition, Durham Tech won the Gold Star award for getting the Durham Tech chapter off to a good start this year.
First and Second place winners will be representing North Carolina Phi Beta Lambda at the PBL National Leadership Conference in June 2008 in Atlanta, Georgia.
