Durham Tech Announces New Vice Presidents, New Administrative Positions

(Durham, N.C.) – Durham Technical Community College welcomes Dr. Valarie J. Evans as the new vice president for Student Learning, Development, and Support. Also, as of August 1, Edward E. Moore is the college’s vice president for Finance and Administration. In other top administrative position changes, Wanda S. Maggart became senior vice president for Institutional Advancement, previously serving as senior vice president for Institutional and Student Support Services. Jamie Glass’ title was changed to vice president for Corporate and Continuing Education.
 
Dr. Evans comes to Durham Tech from Tidewater Community College in Norfolk, where she served as associate vice president of Academic Projects. During her tenure there, she served as dean of Student Services and Chief Campus Administrator at the college’s Norfolk Campus as well as coordinator and counselor of the Tutor Center. She previously held administrative positions at Paul D. Camp Community College in Franklin, Va. Dr. Evans holds a bachelor’s of science degree in Psychology from Norfolk State University, a master’s of science in Guidance and Counseling from Old Dominion University, and a Doctorate in Community College Education from George Mason University.  

Moore returned to Durham Tech in July 2008, where he was first an Accounting instructor and later served as an Affirmative Action Officer, chief of Student Services and Planning Officer, and Business Manager/Chief Facilities Officer. Moore retired from the college after 28 years of service in August 1999. He then worked for five years at the Durham Housing Authority. Moore earned his bachelor’s of science degree in Accounting and his MBA from North Carolina Central University.

Maggart worked for several years at Durham Tech in the early ‘80s and returned to the college in 1995. During the nine years she was away, she worked at College of The Albemarle and Bertie County Schools. Since returning to Durham Tech, she has served as special assistant to the president, director of Marketing and Communications, vice president for Institutional Support Services, and senior vice president for Institutional and Student Support Services. In addition to her role as senior vice president for Institutional Advancement, she continues to serve as executive director of Marketing and Communications. Maggart holds bachelor’s degrees in English and Sociology from North Carolina State University and a master’s in English from East Carolina University.

In another change regarding a DTCC vice president, Jamie Glass has been retitled vice president for Corporate and Continuing Education and Chief Continuing Education Officer. Glass, who was formerly vice president of Continuing Education, has been at the college since November 2002. She previously held administrative positions in the N.C. Army National Guard, Wake Technical Community College and N.C. Community College System Office. Glass earned her bachelor’s of science degree in Business Administration from Methodist College, and a master’s of arts in Human Resources Development from Webster University.
