(DURHAM, N.C.) – Thirty-eight Durham Technical Community College students were recently inducted into the college’s chapter of Gamma Beta Phi, a national honor and service society for students at both two-year and four year colleges and universities.
Micara Lewis, program director for the college’s School-Age Education program, was the keynote speaker at the induction ceremony.
Durham Tech’s Gamma Beta Phi chapter has been active with numerous activities and attended the North Carolina/Virginia State Convention on Nov. 8 in Shelby. The chapter won several awards, including a prize for the scrapbook competition. Greg Gassaway, advisor of the college’s chapter, was elected Associate Advisor for the N.C./Va. Region.
Recently chapter members participated in the March of Dimes Walk for Babies in Roxboro. Students who did not walk during the event donated baked goods and solicited donations around campus. Other service projects this semester included a Red Cross Blood Drive and a pizza sale for Helping Hands Missions.
