| Q: What is e-learning (online)? Who is it for? How do you use it? |
A: Flexstudy.com is a premier e-learning tool. e-learning is using the web to bridge distances and enabling people to learn no matter where they are. e-learning is for practically everyone. Students can pursue their interests. Corporations and employees can receive an update on industry changes and build skill sets. Individuals can follow their passions, find new ones, and enhance their professional and personal lives. e-learning is easy. Most online courses require nothing
more than an Internet connection and a web browser. The ultimate power
of e-learning is that just about anyone can do it with little effort
or additional technology. |
| Q: What skills do I need to be successful in an e-learning course? |
A: Taking a course over the Internet requires the ability to work independently and to devise your own regular schedule for “attending” class and completing assignments. Students utilizing e-learning have a greater responsibility for their own success than students in traditional classroom settings. It is important that you have the self-discipline and self-motivation to work on a flexible schedule without falling behind. It is also important for e-learning students to be comfortable
using email, the world wide web, and word processors. |
| Q: What computer hardware and software do I need to take a flexstudy.com e-learning course? |
| A: In order to complete a flexstudy program, you must have access to
the Internet and be using Adobe Acrobat Reader. The site is best viewed
in Internet Explorer or Netscape. |
| Q: Do I have to come to the campus? |
| A: No, there is not a need to come to the campus. |
| Q: Do I have to be online at a certain time each day or week? |
| A: No, but you should develop your own schedule to ensure that you complete
the course requirements (pre-test, written course work with chapter review
questions, and final exam/post-test) by the course-end date. |
| Q: How do I register for a Durham Tech
flexstudy.com/American Management online course? |
A: After visiting www.flexstudy.com/dtcc and selecting a course, there are two steps to completing registration:
|
Q: How much do the courses
cost? |
A: American Management online courses cost $75. Because these courses are self-supporting, no tuition waivers
or exemptions are allowed. Each course awards either 1 or 2 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) upon successful
completion. |
| Q: How do you know how many Continuing Educations Units (CEUs) are offered for a course selected through flexstudy.com? |
| A: CEU information is listed on the program
description page or visit www.flexstudy.com/dtcc
and click on Course Description. The number of CEUs awarded for satisfactory
course completion is listed with each course description. |
| Q: Can I “sample” a chapter of any course? |
| A: Yes, a sample chapter is provided for each course for your review
and assistance in making the decision to select a particular course. In
addition, review questions are provided. |
| Q: How practical are flexstudy courses? |
| A: This is one of the major benefits of flexstudy course material. You
take what you learn and put it into practice at the office or on the job.
The American Management Association’s self-study courses are structured
so you can immediately apply what you learn at the office. Your coursework
has immediate impact! |
| Q: What is the program cancellation and complaint resolution policy? |
A: Flexstudy.com’s online self-study courses expire when a new edition is made available. Users of the old edition will then have 12 months to complete the purchased edition. Flexstudy.com’s objective is to provide 100% customer satisfaction. All concerns are handled within 24 hours from receipt. Users may contact flexstudy.com by phone at 516-594-8262 or email service@flexstudy.com. If your problem is not resolved email ddoran@flexstudy.com
or gladsonp@durhamtech.edu. |
| Q: What is the refund policy? |
A: The flexstudy.com website was designed to provide you with enough information to make an informed decision. A complete course description including learning objectives, an extensive table of contents, instructions on how to take the course, and actual sample chapter are provided. In addition, you are provided with a course demo. If you decide not to take the course prior
to logging in the first time and before the start date, a 100%
refund of the registration fee may be requested by the student. A 75%
refund may be made upon request if the student officially withdraws
and requests a refund prior to the 10 percent point
in the class (4 days). For additional information see Course
Cancellations and Refund Policy for Non-Credit Courses. |
| Q: How long are courses? Certificate programs? |
A: Flexstudy.com courses offered through DTCC begin on the 3rd Thursday of the month and last for 8 weeks. Most certificate programs can be completed within 6 months
with satisfactory performance in five courses. Certificate programs
must be completed within 12 months (the clock begins on the start date
of first class in a certificate program) in order to receive recognition
sponsored by DTCC. |
| Q: What happens if I have a question pertaining to text material? |
| A: You can email your questions to support@flexstudy.com,
but most often if you carefully review the text material you will find
the answer. |
| Q: How do I know what the correct answer is to a review question? |
| A: The online review questions also appear at the end of each chapter.
If after careful review you still need help with the answer go to the
end of the chapter material and find the question and the answer. Keep
in mind that you should understand the principle behind the answer, so
check the text to ensure you understand the concept. |
Q: Your courses all seem to require the Netscape Navigator, Netscape Communicator or Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser. What about the browser that comes with America Online? |
| A: If you’re using America Online version 4 (or greater), you’ll
be fine. If not, you can download the free Netscape or Microsoft browser
or you can install the free version 4 upgrade that AOL should have sent
you by now. Even if you don’t take a course get the new stuff -
it works better. |
| Q: Do we get a letter grade for our final? |
A: Your final grade is based on your performance on the final exam or post-test. It is not a letter grade, but a numeric grade. You will receive an email with your grade. Provided your score is 70%, upon request a certificate awarding CEU credit will be mailed to you within 2-4 weeks. Flexstudy.com will continue to grade examinations and
tests for one year after the course was purchased. If you have any questions
regarding the tests, the grading, or the course itself, email service@flexstudy.com
|
| Q: How is taking an Internet course different from reading a book? |
| A: Like books, much of the information in a flexstudy.com Internet course
will be conveyed to you in writing. But the similarities between books
and flexstudy.com end there. In particular, flexstudy.com believes that
skills are best acquired by coupling hands-on experience with information.
Each course comes complete with a quiz that has been carefully designed
to reinforce the material covered in each chapter. AMA self-study is world-recognized
as a leader in business management practices and training. Each quiz will
be evaluated instantly and returned to you for additional review. You
are provided with all the information you need to self-evaluate your work
and assess your own strengths and weaknesses. |
| Q: How is taking an Internet course different from classroom instruction? |
| A: In today’s fast-paced world, many of us find it difficult to
take time away from work and family to attend school. One of the primary
advantages of our Internet courses is that you can work and gain skills
in the comfort and convenience of your own home or office. All you have
to do is log into your online classroom when you are ready to read your
lessons, complete your review questions, or take the final exam. Internet
courses fit into your schedule. You can take them before breakfast, during
lunch, late at night, or at any time you find convenient. The choice is
yours! You can even print them and create a binder if you like. |
| Q: How is taking an Internet course different from video-based instruction? |
| A: Again, flexstudy.com Internet courses are designed to take advantage
of the dynamic and interactive nature of the Internet, ensuring that our
courses are more up-to-date and more relevant to your needs than video-based
instruction. In addition, the material covered in flexstudy.com courses
is far more detailed and comprehensive than any information that can be
delivered through a one-hour videotape costing roughly the same amount. |
| Q: How and when are certificates awarded? |
| A: On successful completion of all the testing components in each course
in your area of concentration, upon request you will receive a CEU certificate
under separate cover. Each course may be applied to one CEU certificate.
Once you have successfully completed 10 CEUs, inform certificate@flexstudy.com.
You will then be awarded a program completion certificate from the American
Management Association (AMA). |
| Q: Can courses be used to satisfy CEU requirements for more than one certificate? |
A: No, each course may be applied toward one CEU certificate. In
the event the same course is in more than one program, you must take
an additional course(s) to satisfy the CEU requirement.
