(if any). The required prerequisites for the online courses
that you have selected are listed below:
- Must have successfully completed college level (non-developmental)
classes.
- Must have documented plans to pursue a health care field
(ie. on a nursing program wait list or plans to attend a physician
assistant program)
Please describe how you have met or are planning to meet these
requirements.

4. Computer
requirements
To take an online course you need regular, frequent,
and dependable access to a computer with the following:
- Internet access via a phone modem or high-speed access such
as cable or DSL;
- An internet browser: Netscape 6.0, Mozilla 1.2, Firefox

plan to use (Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox, or Internet Explorer)

through which all (or nearly all) class activities take place.
Therefore, it is critical that you have good computer skills
and are comfortable doing the following:
- Sending and receiving email;
- Attaching documents to email messages and opening attachments
that you receive;

6. Time required
for an online course
The traditional Nurse Aide I course requires most students
to spend 10 hours per week attending classes and an additional
five hours per week reading and studying. This hybrid class
requires 5 hours per week in the classroom and 10 hours reading
and studying online.
Do you have at least 15 hours per week to spend on the online
course, completing the reading, writing, assignments and for
participating weekly in the discussion forum (if required)? |
|
7. Study
skills/habits needed
Do you like to take the initiative, ask questions, and
join in discussions? Do you like to complete your work ahead
of time? Are you task-oriented, self-motivated, and organized?
Do you enjoy reading and figuring things out? Do you enjoy experimenting
with new technology? Do you enjoy helping others learn? If you
answered "yes" to these questions, then internet learning
is well-suited to you.
Describe your learning style below. If your preferred learning
style does not match the description above, what needs to be
done to ensure your success? |
|
8. Communication
in an online course
Online learning is designed to be interactive both with
the other students in the class and with the instructor. Online
courses use a discussion forum to "have class." You
don't have to be online at the same time, but you will need
to visit the forum on a regular basis several times each week.
When you visit the forum, you are expected to post your work,
read the postings of your classmates, and post follow-ups to
their postings. Whenever you visit the forum, you must post
some kind of response so your instructor will know you were
there. Your active participation in the forum is how your instructor
takes attendance.
The other way the class is interactive is through email. You
will be receiving email from your instructor and from your classmates.
Thus, it's very important that you check your email on a daily
basis to see if there is any response needed on your part.
In your response, indicate that you understand the importance
of interacting with other students in the class and responding
promptly to them and to the instructor. |
|
