Steps for
New Degree-Seeking Students
Are you new to the college? Do you plan to pursue a degree, diploma, or
certificate program? If the answer is “yes” to both of these
questions, follow these steps to complete the process of enrollment into
Durham Tech.
All new students who plan to enroll in a program and wish to register
for one or more curriculum courses should complete the admissions process
and see an advisor prior to registering for courses. Fall Advising and
Registration options are available to students until August 3, 2007. After
this date, the only option is Late Advising and Registration, the week
before classes begin. Avoid long lines and closed courses associated with
Late Registration! Use TECHLINE to register
early and then pay early!
- Start with Orientation.
Orientation is your opportunity to understand how Durham Tech can help
you reach your educational or career goals, understand the advising
and registration process, learn about the various resources available

to see that you have prepared well for this important decision to begin
college. Please refer to the Orientation Schedule
for more information about orientation dates, times, and locations.

There are three forms you’ll want to complete as you get started.
Two are required for admission, and one is required if you plan to apply
for financial aid.

know the application process can take up to five weeks, especially
during registration periods. Students should complete the entire
process prior to registering for courses. More information is available
in the Financial Aid section
of the web site.
- Take the placement
test.

and document prerequisite skills. Your admissions counselor will let
you know which tests are necessary for your program. To make your best
possible score, review as much as possible before taking the test. "Chart

and review material links can also be found on our web site.

how to meet your academic goals. You will also receive permission to
take the courses you need for the upcoming semester. Every student must
meet with an advisor each semester to take college-level courses. At
