Basic Activity Professional Training for Health Care Facilities – $60

This course is designed to provide basic training to individuals desiring to become an activity professional in a health care-related setting. Activity directors for adult care homes are required by the N.C. Division of Facility Services to complete a minimum of 50 hours in an approved Activity Director course. Activity directors for nursing facilities are required to complete the 50-hour basic course with an additional minimum of 10 hours in documentation, including the assessment and care planning process. This approved course includes an overview of the activity profession, human development and the aging process, standards of practice, and methods of service delivery. Textbook required. 60 hours.

Beginning Spanish for Health Care Professionals I – $55

This introductory Spanish course is intended for health care professionals with little or no knowledge of the language. This course focuses on helping students develop listening and oral skills by using real-life medical scenarios closely coupled with clear Spanish grammar explanations, and relevant vocabulary. 25 hours.

Beginning Spanish for Health Care Professionals II – $55

With this course, students continue increasing their Spanish vocabulary and grammar. This course is designed for health care professionals to communicate with the growing Hispanic population, so that they can communicate respectfully and effectively with Spanish-speaking patients and their families. 25 hours.

Exploring the HIV/AIDS Epidemic – $55

Explore basic knowledge of the history, epidemiology, treatment, social factors, and current policy surrounding the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The course examines issues pertaining to sexually transmitted infections, substance abuse, new diagnosis, transmission, disclosure, and other psychological and social factors affecting the spread of HIV/AIDS. Course objectives are achieved through course readings, audio visual presentations, discussion, and lectures. Internet access, email, Adobe Acrobat reader, and Microsoft Word usage are required. 20 hours.

Health Education: The Importance of a Proactive Wellness Program – $55

Students review and understand essential concepts about all aspects of health, providing a unique opportunity to develop knowledge of disease and health promotion with an emphasis on developing a lifetime positive and healthy lifestyle. The course is designed to enhance the student’s knowledge of health issues, resulting in an increased awareness of disease prevention with emphasis on developing a lifetime wellness program. 24 hours.
