This course is designed to provide basic training to individuals desiring to become an activity professional in a health care-related setting. Activity directors for adult care homes are required by the N.C. Division of Facility Services to complete a minimum of 50 hours in an approved Activity Director course. Activity directors for nursing facilities are required to complete the 50-hour basic course with an additional minimum of 10 hours in documentation, including the assessment and care planning process. This approved course includes an overview of the activity profession, human development and the aging process, standards of practice, and methods of service delivery. Textbook required. 60 hours.

With this course, students continue increasing their Spanish vocabulary and grammar. This course is designed for health care professionals to communicate with the growing Hispanic population, so that they can communicate respectfully and effectively with Spanish-speaking patients and their families. 25 hours.

Explore basic knowledge of the history, epidemiology, treatment, social factors, and current policy surrounding the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The course examines issues pertaining to sexually transmitted infections, substance abuse, new diagnosis, transmission, disclosure, and other psychological and social factors affecting the spread of HIV/AIDS. Course objectives are achieved through course readings, audio visual presentations, discussion, and lectures. Internet access, email, Adobe Acrobat reader, and Microsoft Word usage are required. 20 hours.
