The Small Business Center regularly presents a variety of courses on small business management topics. Classes usually meet one evening a week for several weeks. Use the Continuing Education and Corporate Education Registration Form for the following courses.

 

Financials Made Easy – $75

Want to REALLY understand your company’s financial statements and become better grounded in your numbers? What do your balance sheet and your profit and loss statement really say to you and how did those numbers get there? Become a better business owner by building the bookkeeping and financial expertise you need to be successful in business today. Taught by Paula Brown of Almost Perfect, Inc. 18 hours.

Before taking ANY of the following computer courses, you should have a basic understanding of your computer’s operating system. For example, you should know how to launch an application, create and save files, and copy files from CDs and other media.

Intro to QuickBooks Pro – $79

The fastest, easiest way to manage your business! This introduction to one of the most popular small business accounting applications tracks general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, checking accounts, and provides easy-to-use reporting features. Students should bring a Memory Stick to save their work from computer classes. 12 hours. Course at NCM taught by Tonya Brewington of T Brewing Consulting, LLC. Course at OCC taught by Paula Brown of Almost Perfect, Inc.

REAL Entrepreneur: How To Start and Build Your Own Business – $85

Do you REALLY want to learn how to start your own business? Participants in this popular five-week course on starting a small business examine in detail the development of a business idea, market analysis, and the components of a business plan. A complete written business plan is the goal for graduates of this course. Students gain knowledge from hands-on activities and guest speakers who are successful business owners. Taught by LaTahsa Best-Gaddy of NCIMED. 30 hours.

Notary Public – $70*

This class is required to be commissioned as a notary public. Topics include requirements and qualifications for the notary public office, requirements for attestation, fees, general powers and limitations, certifications, oaths and affirmations, depositions, affidavits, and negotiable instruments. Textbook included. (Because this course is self-supporting, no tuition waivers or exemptions are allowed.) 6 hours.

Electronic Notary (e-notary) – $65

This course provides electronic notary training for people who already hold a valid commission as a notary public in North Carolina. Students are required to arrive by the beginning of class and have their notary number from the Secretary of State’s office with them. After completion of the course and other requirements, the notary can use electronic processes for signatures, notarizations, and recordings. Textbook included. (Because this course is self-supporting, no tuition waivers or exemptions are allowed.) 4.5 hours.
