Cost of Attendance
When planning to attend college, it's important to consider
the cost of tuition and books when determining how many classes
you can afford each semester. The current cost of tuition is printed
here in the Credit Schedule and is also available on the college's
web site. To figure out the cost of your tuition, use the following
formula:
Credit Hours x Tuition Rate + Student Administrative Fee + Special
Fees = Tuition
What about the cost of books? On average, books will cost you
just as much as the in-state tuition rate. Although there is no
method to figure out the exact cost prior to buying your books
for each semester, it's wise to reserve about the same amount
you'll pay for tuition for your books if you are paying the in-state
rate. For example, if you are an in-state student planning to
take 15 credit hours, your tuition would currently be $630. Your
books may cost an additional $600. So, your total cost of attending
Durham Tech for one semester may be approximately $1,200.
Tuition and Fees
Tuition for community colleges is set by the N.C. General Assembly.
Tuition for legal residents of North Carolina is $42 per credit
hour or a maximum of $672 if enrolled for 16 or more credit hours.
Tuition for out-of-state residents (persons who have NOT maintained
domicile in the state for at least the 12 previous months) is
$233.30 per credit hour or a maximum of $3732.80 if enrolled for
16 or more credit hours. North Carolina residents 65 years of
age and older are exempt from paying tuition charges for credit
courses. High school students enrolling in Durham Tech classes
are also exempt from tuition charges. A $5 supplies fee is charged
for some science and computer courses due to class and lab materials
used. Students must include these fees with their payment. Other
fees include a $35 student administrative fee for Spring Semester.
Note that senior citizens and high school students enrolling
at Durham Tech must pay supplies fees as well as other fees for
Durham Tech credit courses. Tuition and fee payments may be made
by check, money order, debit, or credit card (only MasterCard
and VISA accepted for debit or credit cards). Note that Durham
Tech verifies all checks and credit cards to ensure accounts are
active and in good standing.
All tuition and fees must be paid at the time you register or
by the date noted. Returned checks for fees or books are turned
over to the magistrate’s office and will result in the student’s
immediate suspension from class. Be aware that outstanding parking
tickets and library fines must also be paid before registering
for classes.
