Housekeeping Supervisor

Reports to:

Director, Facility Services

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is a working supervisory position responsible for working with, coordinating, and/or supervising all full time, part time, and contract housekeeping employees who maintain and ensure the cleaning standards performed in all DTCC buildings located on the Lawson/Cooper streets main campus, Northern Durham campus, and Orange County Campus. The employee is also responsible for providing direction and oversight as well as assisting with setting up special room arrangements, relocating furniture and equipment items, performing other duties as directed by the Director, achieving the objectives of the Facility Services Department, and carrying out all duties as specified in the contract of employment. More specifically, and consistent with the employee's current contract of employment, the employee is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for providing direction and assisting with setting up special room arrangements; relocating DTCC faculty and staff; moving furniture and equipment; picking up items designated for surplus and delivering to the warehouse; and transporting items to or from the Facility Services Department warehouse as directed.
  2. Supervise and maintain the cleaning standards of all DTCC buildings.
  3. Provide liaison for contract activities between DTCC and contracted janitorial service companies performing services for DTCC. Among the duties included is the daily communication necessary to maintain satisfactory cleaning standards, assisting in establishing contract conditions and financial conditions, and enforcing contract requirements.
  4. Inspect areas cleaned by staff and contract housekeepers to ensure satisfactory performance, resolving any deficiencies, and immediately reporting problem areas to the Director when identified.
  5. Monitor hallways, lounges and rest rooms for cleanliness, spills and debris on a scheduled basis throughout the work period, resolving any deficiencies, and immediately reporting any problem areas to the Director when identified.
  6. Ensure that all trashcans are emptied on a scheduled basis.
  7. Ensure that all entrances/exits are swept on a regular scheduled basis.
  8. Utilize the Work Order system to immediately report any light bulbs, ceiling tiles, or other building components that are identified to need maintenance or replacement.
  9. Order materials and supplies necessary to keep all housekeepers and buildings properly equipped.
  10. Ensure that the cleaning equipment and supplies are properly maintained and stored.
  11. Ensure that the storerooms and/or janitor closets in each facility are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
  12. Be willing to train and upgrade knowledge in assigned duties.
  13. Be prepared to change and adjust schedule by the season, quarter or semester and when otherwise necessary to perform tasks deemed appropriate by the Director or other appropriate DTCC officials.
  14. Be willing and readily cooperative in being pulled off of your routine work assignment as needed to help out in temporary and emergency situations.
  15. Be respectful of all employees, including your immediate peers.
  16. Show initiative in your job by responding to problems that require immediate attention and being prepared to handle those problems without waiting for instructions to do so, ensuring a continuous, timely and efficient operation.
  17. Be prepared to use your best judgment without constant or direct supervision and being alert for new ideas and improvements.
  18. Follow all Work Order assignments and procedures as directed by the Director and required by the Facility Services Department.
  19. Maintain and review a schedule of recurring activities.
  20. Wear the uniforms as furnished by DTCC during normal working hours and keeping them neat and clean in appearance.
  21. Use all safety equipment provided by DTCC and as required by OSHA, the DTCC Safety Committee and the Facility Services Department.
  22. Properly maintain and use all radio equipment as furnished by DTCC in compliance with all FCC regulations and as required by the Facility Services Department.
  23. Be regular in attendance and willing to cooperate and work with the other employees to get the job done.
  24. Report any discrepancies or deficiencies with the housekeeping staff's compliance with the policies, procedures and objectives of the Facility Services Department to the Director immediately when identified.
  25. Additional duties shall include other appropriate activities as assigned by the Director of Facility Services, Chief Division Officer and/or the President.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years directly related experience.
  3. Minimum of two (2) years supervisory or managerial experience.
  4. Have a valid North Carolina driver's license.
  5. Must be able to communicate effectively through verbal and written means, organize work and account for details.
  6. Have the necessary knowledge and use of products for housekeeping duties.
  7. Have the ability to follow orders and complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
  8. Must be a reliable, responsible, tactful, resourceful, and trustworthy person with a sincere interest and concerned attitude toward the College.
  9. Must have a cooperative disposition in working well with other people.
Normal Work Hours:

A forty-hour workweek with occasional weekend and evening hours as needed to allow the employee to adequately fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities.
