| Library Card
Your Durham Tech Identification card will
also serve as your library card. ID cards are issued in the
Security office, which is located in the rear annex of the White
Building. Please present your ID to library staff. We will then
barcode your ID card to give you a unique library patron number,
and we also will put your contact information in our library
database. Your contact information will be used to reach you
about library concerns, such as books on hold or overdue notices.
We value your privacy and will not disclose such information
to any third party.
Loan Period
Books, music CDs, and audiotapes (books
on tape) may be checked out for three weeks and renewed once
for another three weeks. Renewals can be made online, in person,
or by phone. Items that are overdue will not be allowed a renewal.
Overdue items must be brought back to the library for 24 hours
before being checked out again. Students may be notified of
overdue items through notices in the US mail, by email, or by
telephone. A student ID card must be presented to take books
from the library. Reference books, certain video recordings,
and periodicals are for library use only. If a circulating
book is checked out, you may place it on “hold” by coming to
the main desk with your ID card.
Reserve Materials
Materials placed on reserve by the faculty
for class assignments are kept behind the library circulation
desk. These include books, articles, sample tests, videotapes,
audio tapes, and compact discs. They may be marked “library
use only” or they may be borrowed for 48 hours or one week,
depending on the wishes of the instructor. Checked out videos
on reserve will incur a late fee of $1.00 a day. This fine policy
will be enforced to allow maximum access to reserve videos for
the entire student population. Some current newspapers and magazines
are also kept behind the library circulation desk. For a location
listing, check the Periodicals Holdings List. An ID
card must be presented to use materials kept behind the circulation
desk.
Audiovisual Materials
Videotapes and DVDs are housed on the lower
level of the library. Those with a blue bar on the spine label,
located on the right side of the audiovisual shelves, circulate
for one week and may be renewed once. Videos and DVDs on the
left side of the audiovisual shelves, with no blue stickers,
may only be checked out by faculty and staff. Students may view
them on VCRs or DVD players in the library. Downstairs in the
library there are VCRs in a few of the carrels to the left of
the staircase and in rooms 515 and 516 (please note that these
rooms are very small). Room 514 downstairs and room 513 upstairs
are equipped so that small groups may view either videos or
DVDs. Headphones are available in the computer lab downstairs.
Please help us keep track of our audiovisual materials by checking
them out at the circulation desk before viewing.
Photocopies and Printing Three
self-service photocopiers are available for use on the upper
level. Photocopies cost five cents per page, sash only. Print-outs
sent to the printers from the networked computers upstairs also
cost five cents per page. After making all of your computer
printouts, please pay for them by cash or check at the circulation
desk. Durham Tech students printing from the computer lab downstairs
may print up to ten pages per day for free. The cost for additional
pages is five cents per page, payable at the circulation desk.
Study Rooms
There are study rooms for use by students
who wish to study together. Room 513 is on the upper level
and room 514 is on the lower level. Only faculty may reserve
rooms for specific times of the day.
Quiet Room
Room 508 on the upper level of the library
is reserved for quiet study. No group study or talking is allowed.
Also no children or cell phones are allowed in the quiet space.
