University Transfer Home studentVisiting students may register during General Registration if they make an appointment at the Advising Center (telephone). Otherwise, visiting students must wait to sign up for classes at Latel Registration.

Visiting (non curriculum) students must meet prerequisites to enroll in University Transfer classes. Students can meet prerequisites in the following ways:

  1. Bring an official transcript from another community college or university to general registration.

  2. Take the COMPASS test at Durham Tech prior to registration. The test schedule and sample questions are online via Practice Sites for COMPASS.

  3. Students must have taken a Biology or Chemistry (could be high school) class within the last 5 years to have those classes count for prerequisite credit.

  4. Bring an official copy of SAT scores or ACT scores to the meeting with your advisor. Minimum SAT scores of 500 in both Writing and Critical Reading are required for placement into college level English. A minimum SAT score of 450 is required for placement into Survey of Mathematics. A higher score of 500 is required for placement into college-level algebra. A minimum score of 400 is required for placement into the highest level developmental mathematics course. Minimum ACT scores are 20 in the English portion for placement into college-level English and 20 in the mathematics portion for placement into college-level mathematics. If you do not have such scores and you have not successfully completed a college-level English or mathematics course, then you must take the placement test for appropriate placement into English and mathematics.

  5. Students may also bring official scores from AP exams for consideration for class credit.

Students from other institutions of higher learning should double check with their own school about transferring classes from Durham Tech back to their school.

The courses and schedule for each semester are available in the booklet sent to residents of Durham and Orange County. Alternatively, the Academic Calendar provides dates for registration and classes and the Career Programs & University Transfer Students page lists class schedules.
