The Health Information Technology curriculum provides individuals with the knowledge and skills to process, analyze, abstract, compile, maintain, manage, and report health information.
Students will observe and participate in departmental functions; classify, code, and index diagnoses and procedures; coordinate information for cost control, quality management, statistics, marketing, and planning; monitor governmental and non-governmental standards; facilitate research; and design system controls to monitor patient information security.
Graduates may find employment in hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, long-term care facilities, health insurance organizations, out-patient clinics, mental health facilities, home health organizations, and other places where coded data is used.
Upon completion, graduates will be prepared to successfully challenge the entry-level coding certification examinations offered by the AHIMA, or the AAPC.
