- Students enrolling in the Opticianry program will graduate.
- Graduates of the Opticianry program will be successfully employed in the optical field.
- Graduates of the Opticianry Degree Program will be technically proficient.
Toward achievement of the above stated goals, the Opticianry Degree Program will successfully accomplish the following:
- 54% of the students that enroll in the program will graduate within three years. The graduation rate of Opticianry students averaged 54%, ranging from 38% to 63%, over the 3-year period 2004 - 2006.
- 90% of the graduating class will find employment in the optical field within six months of graduation. The employment rate of Opticianry graduates desiring employment in the Opticianry profession has been and continues to be near 100%.
- Graduates of the Opticianry Degree Program will be technically proficient.70% of the graduates taking the North Carolina State Board of Opticians
Licensure Examination for the first time will pass the examination. The first time passing rate for Durham Tech graduates on the NorthCarolina State Licensure Examination has averaged 61%, rangingfrom 33% to 88% during the 2-year period 2007 - 2008.
- Students are required to take and pass the American Board of Opticianry’s National Opticianry Certification Examination (NOCE) prior to graduation. Thus, the NOCE pass rate for graduates of the program is required to be 100%. 100% of the students taking the National Contact lens Examination will pass the examination. The passing rate for Durham Tech graduates taking the NCLE examination has averaged 100% during the 3-year period 2004-2006.
