Course Descriptions

Hybrid - Emergency Medical Services Instructor Methodology
(alternate attendance option)

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

This course, based on the 2002 National Association of EMS Educators curriculum, trains students who are clinically competent in a specific EMS content area to effectively deliver quality EMS education. Satisfying the Instructor Methodology course requirement for credentialing as an NCOEMS Level I EMS instructor, this course meets one day per week with additional instruction provided online. Weekly assignments are due on Mondays. Students must also schedule one presentation that will be monitored; this presentation must be completed by September 5. Textbook required: Cason, Foundations of Education: An EMS Approach, 2nd Edition ISBN 9781111134884. 65 hours. $180


Hybrid - EMS Education and Administration Course

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

The course is designed to provide the Level EMS Instructor with the next level of understanding for EMS education program coordination and management. This course is designed to train the participants to serve as the lead instructor for EMT-Intermediate and EMT-Paramedic courses as well as the lead EMS educational program coordinator for either basic or advanced educational institutions. This course will be approved by and follows the guidelines established by the NC Office of EMS.  Online course content must be completed by the in-class meeting. Preregistration is mandatory. 19 hours. $65


Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

CLS Instructor Course Offered by American Heart Association (AHA) and sponsored by the DTCC Orange County Campus. Completion of AHA Core Instructor course required prior to course attendance. Current ACLS instructor materials are required. Tuition (unless fee exempt) is $65. Preregistration is required.


Advanced Medical Life Support Provider (AMLS) Instructor

PHTLS logoOffered by National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) and sponsored by DTCC Orange County Campus. This course is offered as a reverse-instructor course and will allow for instructor monitoring in the subsequent AMLS course. Recommended for experienced providers and instructors. Tuition (unless fee exempt) and AMLS instructor card fee total $75. Preregistration is required.


Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC) Instructor

PHTLS logoOffered by National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) and sponsored by DTCC Orange County Campus. This course is offered as a reverse-instructor course and will allow for instructor monitoring in the subsequent EPC course. Recommended for experienced providers and instructors. Tuition (unless fee exempt) and EPC instructor card fee total $75. Preregistration is required.


Healthcare Provider CPR Instructor Instructor

Offered by American Heart Association (AHA) and offered at Durham Tech’s Orange County Campus. Completion of AHA Core Instructor Course required prior to course attendance. Current AHA HCP CPR provider credential and instructor materials are required. Tuition (unless fee exempt) is $65. Preregistration is required.


Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

Offered by American Heart Association (AHA) and offered at Durham Tech’s Orange County Campus. Completion of AHA Core Instructor Course required prior to course attendance. Current PALS provider credential and instructor materials are required. Tuition (unless fee exempt) is $65. Preregistration is required.


Prehospital Trauma Life Support Provider (PHTLS) Instructor

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

PHTLS logoOffered by National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) and sponsored by DTCC Orange County Campus. This course is offered as a reverse-instructor course and will allow for instructor monitoring in the subsequent PHTLS course. Recommended for experienced providers and instructors. Tuition (unless fee exempt) and PHTLS instructor card fee total $75. Preregistration is required.


Online Pre-Hospital Preceptor Course

Registration fee exempt for qualified participants (must provide proof of affiliation)

This is an online course designed for educating and training pre-hospital preceptors. Topics covered start with a basic educational methodology overview and discuss progression of the field education. Preregistration is mandatory. 15 hours $65


Registration

Once the course schedule is available online, you may register at any time prior to the start of the course. Registration must be completed no later than 1 week prior to the course start. Courses failing to have 10 students enrolled by this date will be canceled.


Documentation must be submitted prior to registration to secure a permanent seat in the course. Once you complete the prerequisites, you are eligible for registration. If documentation and prerequisites are not complete prior to the registration end date, you will be removed from the course and refunded the registration fee. The courses are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Any form received with payment information will have all credit/debit card information destroyed upon successful payment processing.


Anyone may register for you. The Public Safety registration form must be submitted for registration. Make sure that the person registering for you has the correct registration fees.


Transcripts

A transcript does not need to be official. If you are getting a transcript from Durham Tech, please plan to receive it 48 hours before general registration. Students should be aware that official transcripts may be requested at any time during enrollment.


Course completion certificates for initial provider courses are provided to students at the time of course completion. Unofficial transcripts containing EMS courses will have the same information as individual certificates and also include previously completed courses displayed in a more condensed format.


For unofficial transcripts containing EMS courses and continuing education, please contact ems@durhamtech.edu and allow at least 48 hours lead time for the request.
