Introduction to Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Interested in becoming an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)? Take the first step in your EMS career, learn about EMS systems, understand EMS career pathways and job requirements, and prepare for your job search. In addition, students complete the required ACT WorkKeys assessments for the Career Readiness Certificate. This course is mandatory as a prerequisite for EMT Basic courses. 20 hours. $69 registration fee + $30 CRC fee.* (Registration fee is waived for qualified participants). Who is exempt from the Introduction to EMS course?

This is a prerequisite for EMT courses. No one will be exempt from the Introduction to EMS course. Associates degree or higher will be accepted in lieu of the WorkKey CRC assessments.  Degree or college transcript must be presented at time of registration for CRC exemption.


How do I determine if I am a qualified participant eligible for the HRD fee waiver?

This class will be free for you if you are unemployed, working part time, have been notified of a lay-off, or are underemployed. See if you meet the guidelines. Underemployed persons are working part time and/or are eligible for the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit. You will be asked to complete a fee waiver form the first day of class. Note that the required $30.00 fee for the WorkKeys assessments is not covered by HRD fee waiver.
