Nursing Programs Work Closely with Area University Hospitals
Durham Tech’s highly regarded five-semester Associate Degree Nursing (AND) program works hand in glove with local university hospitals for the clinical portions of instruction. Students intern during both day and evening rotations at Duke University Medical Center, the University of North Carolina Health Care System, and other health agencies.

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) one-year program also has strong ties with area university hospitals. Clinical rotations take place at Duke University Medical Center, Durham Regional Hospital, and Lincoln Community Health Center.

Licensed Practical Nurses Have Unique Opportunity to Become Licensed Nurses
Through a grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, Durham Tech offers an evening Associate Degree Nursing program to licensed practical nurses who want to move up the career ladder. In addition to the Reynolds grant of $137,000, Durham Tech received grants of $100,000 from both Duke University Health Care System and UNC Health Care System.

This began in 2004 with 24 licensed practical nurses admitted to the six-semester program. The evening transition program enables LPNs to stretch out their education over a longer timeframe as they juggle jobs and family responsibilities.
