Presented within a classroom environment, these hands-on courses offer a wide range of specific small business topics, along with the opportunity to apply this new information immediately. Courses are held at Durham Tech’s Small Business Center, located in the SOUTHBank Building in Durham or at the Orange County Campus in Hillsborough.
Important Note: Preregistration is required for all courses and must be completed by the Thursday of the week prior to the start of each course. If preregistration enrollment is low, classes may be canceled.

The Fast Entrepreneur: Getting to Profitability in a Hurry
This course is for new and existing entrepreneurs who want to implement their business ideas into a viable, sustainable, and successful business with the potential of earning a six-figure net income within three years. Students have weekly assignments to strategically develop a draft business plan based on a business concept. Students must come with a for-profit or nonprofit business idea and be committed to working hard by completing weekly assignments and actively participating in class discussions while contributing to class learning. Note: Students should be proficient users of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, which will be used extensively throughout this course to complete assignments. Planning and Operating for Success
This course provides startup and existing entrepreneurs with the tools of a successful business. Weekly activities challenge the entrepreneurs to perform the critical thinking processes necessary to write a better and more complete business plan. Entrepreneurs also learn that one key to a successful business is effectively operating and managing the business once the extraordinary plan has been written.
