Center for Academic Excellence (CAE)
The Center for Academic Excellence offers students a number of alternatives to the traditional classroom setting for education and provides academic support through tutorial services, workshops, and materials.
Developmental Education (DE)
The Developmental Education program provides an “open door” for admission to Durham Tech for students who find themselves underprepared for college-level work. Developmental Education, a preparatory program in academic skills, helps students enter their chosen curriculum with a good probability of success.
Project DEgree is an innovative educational model available exclusively for students who place into ENG 080 and RED 080 at Durham Technical Community College. Project DEgree features an engaging curriculum within a learning community and the support of a resource specialist who serves as your advisor and mentor. If you participate in Project DEgree,you will receive the academic and social support necessary to complete the college credential of your choice.
First-Year Experience (FYE)
The Improving Study Skills (ACA 085) course prepares students to improve performance in college-level classes. Topics include basic study skills, memory techniques, note-taking strategies, test-taking techniques, library skills, personal improvement strategies, goal setting, and learning resources. The College Transfer Success (ACA 122) course provides information and strategies necessary to develop clear academic and professional goals beyond the community college experience. Students will be prepared to develop an academic plan to transition successfully to senior institutions.
Gateway to College (GtC)
Gateway to College at Durham Tech Community College is an educational option for Durham Public Schools (DPS) students between the ages of 16-21 who have dropped out of high school but have a desire to get back on track and earn a diploma. Students will earn a high school diploma while also earning college credits.
