Durham Technical Community College’s Excellence in Teaching Committee is pleased to announce that Xiomara Campilongo will receive the Twenty-first Annual Excellence in Teaching Award.
Xiomara, Instructor of Spanish in the Arts, Sciences, and University Transfer department, was selected for this honor on the basis of her dedication to students both in and out of the classroom as well as her contributions to community college education and foreign language education. She embodies many of the best practices in higher education instruction by providing systematic and effective feedback to students, setting high expectations of her students, incorporating technology into education, and facilitating real-world applications of content.
In addition to her successes in the Spanish classroom, Xiomara also contributes to the mission of the college by serving as an advisor for Sigma Delta Mu (Spanish Honor Society) and designing the curriculum for and teaching the college’s first Spanish Immersion Program in Summer 2007.
Xiomara represents Durham Tech as a member of several professional development organizations including FLANC (Foreign Language Association of North Carolina), NCCFA (North Carolina Community College Faculty Association), NCCCDL (North Carolina Community College of Distance Learning), FLICC (Foreign Language Community College) Association, and AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese).
