Public Service Management (Non-credit)

Short Term

This online program is designed to prepare public servants to become a successful leader and manager in their field of Public Service. Courses are offered in conjunction with College courses in areas that focus on diversity, multiple aspects of government management, ethics, liability and employment law. Students completing all six courses may also earn up to eighteen (18) credit hours towards obtaining an Associate in Applied Science degree from Durham Tech.

Prerequisite: Students must be employed in a Public Service Agency.


Note: The fee waiver for Public Safety personnel does not include the required textbooks.

CJC-5015I Local Government & Finance

This course introduces local governmental financial principles and practices. Topics include budget preparation and justification, revenue policies, statutory requirements, taxation, audits, and the economic climate. Upon completion, students should be able to comprehend the importance of finance as it applies to the operation of a fire department.

CJC-5015F Diversity in Management

This course is designed to help managers recognize the need to incorporate diversity into all phases of organizational management. Topics include self-evaluation, management, sexual harassment, workforce diversity, dual careers, role conflict, and communication issues. Upon completion, students should be able to implement solutions that minimize policies, attitudes, and stereotypical behaviors that block effective team building.
