Dr. Phail Wynn Jr, was president of Durham Technical Community College from 1980-2007. When Dr. Wynn made a generous donation to the library in 2007, the library created a special collection in his name. Dr. Wynn requested the collection pertain to socially responsible topics such as ecology and the environment, cultural awareness, global citizenship, teaching tolerance, appreciating diversity, fighting poverty, and promoting world peace. DURHAM, NC – Dr. Angela Davis, Vice President, Chief Talent and Equity Officer at Durham Technical Community College was a recent participant of the 2022 Thomas Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership, which was held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania October 2-7, 2022.
The Lakin Institute, which is sponsored by the Presidents’ Round Table of African American CEOs of Community Colleges, is a national professional development program designed with the intent of preparing senior-level executives for roles as community college chief executive officers and presidents.
Davis, a Durham resident, is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive talent management strategy to leverage talent for institutional growth, while leading the development and implementation of proactive equity, inclusion, and diversity initiatives to support the college’s strategic plan.

Durham Tech student Juan-Pablo Quintanilla Ha began his interest in the Fidelity Scholars program during high school, when a guidance counselor shared information on the program.
“After learning about the Fidelity program from a high school counselor of mine, I researched the program and found I was a fit because of my Latino-Asian descent, but also because of my academic excellence and it helped that I am a go-getter,” said Ha, who was one of the Durham Tech students selected for the program. “I was then all about the program and how it could help me get a college education.”
Ha saw Fidelity’s program as a way to receive money for college, but quickly learned it was much more.
“After learning about the Fidelity program from a high school counselor of mine, I researched the program and found I was a fit because of my Latino-Asian descent, but also because of my academic excellence and it helped that I am a go-getter,” said Ha, who was one of the Durham Tech students selected for the program. “I was then all about the program and how it could help me get a college education.”

Students who ultimately wish to complete a baccalaureate of arts degree in Elementary Education at a four-year college or university would complete the Associate in Arts (AA), Associate of Arts in Teacher Preparation, or Associate of Science in Teacher Preparation degree.
