Books on the screen!
So many great books are hitting the screen this fall, either as TV shows or movies. Many are already out or available on streaming platforms. Here are a few book adaptations that we're looking forward to watching or are currently enjoying. If you would like to read one of these but it's not available at our libraries, you may request it through Interlibrary loan. Happy reading and watching!

New Books for Break
There is still time to check out one (or two or three or four!) of these new books to read over Thanksgiving Break. Books are a great conversation started at dinner and a great way to get some peace amidst the hectic Thanksgiving hubbub. We have SO MANY great new books that I can't include all of them. Some of the books not pictured are written by or about such notable people as Jackie Chan, Stan Lee, Harvey Milk, Malcolm Gladwell, Lois Lowry, Dapper Dan, and Edward Snowden. So come grab a book!
Banned Books Week: Celebrate by Exploring and Reading Challenged Books Across The US
October 1-7 is Banned Books Week. With the increase in challenges to libraries and school systems to limit access to reading materials, the Durham Tech Library feels it is more important than ever to mindfully reflect on the power that stories have to empower and educate. Banned Books Week highlights this issue in libraries and society and encourages people to consider the implications of book bans in society. While we strongly believe that parents and individuals have the right to choose to
Celebrate Banned Books Week Sept. 24-30
Banned Books Week is an annual event which celebrates the freedom to read and highlights the importance of open access to information for all. Halloween Fun Facts: Samhain's Influence
Have you wondered about the origins of Halloween? Check out this short video about the connection to Samhain (pronounced “sow-win”), an ancient Celtic celebration.
Day of the Dead Display
If you have walked by the Main Campus Library recently you may have seen our new display in our front window. Courtesy of Cambiando Caminos the display is for Diá de Muertos, or Day of the Dead. Observed from October 31st to November 2nd, this holiday is often affiliated with Halloween in the United States. However, this is a distinct and different holiday with its own history and traditions. Learn more below, or if you are off campus click here. Make sure to stop by and see the lovely display!
Testing, testing!
It’s close to time for exams, but the library has another kind of testing already going on. We’re trying out new chat software that lets us IM with students, faculty, or anyone else who needs assistance. To start talking with us, go to the library homepage and click on the chat icon in the middle of the page, near the bottom. If we're available to chat, the icon looks like: If we're not available, a different icon indicates that we're away. Chat with us, and let us know what you think! We hope
New DVD guides make finding movies easy
We now have two great online guides for finding movies in the library's collection. One guide is for browsing titles by movie genre such as Action, History, Sports, etc... and the other is an alphabetical listing of films in our collection. We hope you'll discover lots of films that you want to watch. Thanks to our library staff member, Lauren Havens, for all of her hard work creating these new resources. You can also access these guides under the LibGuides link on the library website.
