Types of Courses at Durham Tech
Durham Tech offers three types of classes:
- In-person
- Online
- Synchronous (class meets virtually)
- Asynchronous (students complete online classwork when it is convenient for them)
- Hybrid (combination of in-person and online class)
In-Person
Classes that meet in-person will list the class dates, times, and location in Self-Service.
In the image below, Ms. Holder's course section (MED-118-001A) runs from August 17 – October 12 and meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 – 2:10 p.m. in Tech (Building 9), Room 110.*
Online
Online classes are conducted 100% virtually. Coursework, exams, and class meetings (in the case of synchronous classes) take place online.
Synchronous
Classes that meet online use a virtual meeting platform (like Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, etc.). Students are still responsible for maintaining attendance.
In the image below, the course section (MAT-143-104) runs from August 17 – December 15 and meets virtually on Tuesdays from 3:00 – 4:40 p.m. The location lists "Online" or "Internet/Distance Learning."*
Asynchronous
Asynchronous classes do not meet virtually. Instead, the course is designed so students are able to learn and complete classwork when it is convenient for their schedules.
In the image below, Mr. Hodge's course section (MAT-143-103) runs from August 17 – December 15 and does not meet in-person or virtually. No days or times are listed and the location lists "Online" or "Internet/Distance Learning."*
Hybrid
Hybrid classes include both in-person and online instruction.
In the image below, Ms. Beatty's course section (NAS-101-101) runs from August 17 to December 15*:
- Asynchronous class from August 17 – October 28
- Lab Hours run from August 17 – October 29 and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. at Orange County Campus, Room 119
- Clinical Hours run from November 3 – December 8 and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 – 10:30 a.m. and then from 11:00 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. at Orange County Campus
- Lab Hours run from December 10 – December 15 and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. at Orange County Campus, Room 119
