A UDTS Preview

The Founding Partners Release of the UDTS

In September the Lighthouse Data Access Project Team gained access to the “Founding Partners Release” of the UDTS (Unified Data and Technology System), which DataKind is calling Converge. This early version uses only representative synthetic data for testing purposes, so the data here is not Durham Tech data.  But these early views may give you a sense of the data tool's potential capabilities.

Converge currently has three sections.  The Dashboards section includes D/F/W Trends, Course Performance, and Credit Completion metrics.

The Predictive Analytics page provides data on Retention and Graduation.

The Insights page allows users to pose natural language questions about the data:

Each section provides options for filtering the data through different lenses or student groups, such as First Generation, Program of Study, Employment Status, or Military Affiliation. Users can also export charts as images (PNG) or CVS files.

The Lighthouse Data Access team will continue testing the system for its usability, relevance of features, and accuracy as new capabilities are added and Durham Tech data is connected later this fall. And DataKind will continue to adding new capabilities and responding to user feedback.

What’s Happening Next?

    • The Lighthouse team is joining forces with the Aspen Unlocking Opportunities team to work on an implementation plan—a focused project and test case for using data and the UDTS to support our student success goals.  Look for more information in an upcoming blog post.

    • Connection of Durham Tech data to the UDTS

    • Continued efforts to arrive at common definitions of our data and student success metrics
