Humble in the Jungle: A Documentary About Hip Hop Legend Mike “Mike Gee” Smalls

Produced by Durham Tech's plumbing instructor Ricky Kelly, Humble in the Jungle tells the story of how Mike “Mike Gee” Smalls journeyed through humble beginnings to Hip Hop stardom at a very young age. After his music career began to wane, Mike Gee found new purpose in the plumbing industry, where he built valuable relationships with other tradesman and, eventually, developed an instant bond with Kelly. Like Smalls, Kelly’s road to becoming a tradesman and running his own business was unconventional. The film shares their real experiences as successful tradesmen of color, family men, and artists.
