Durham Tech Board of Trustees elect chair, vice chair for 2026-27

Durham Tech Community College’s Board of Trustees re-elected Pat Ashley as board chair and Walter Newton as the new vice chair at its June meeting.

Both bring strong records of leadership and have made a significant commitment to the College and the community in their personal and professional lives.  

Ashley is an educator who has served on Durham Tech’s board since 2015.

“It has been a pleasure to serve the College, and I am honored to continue as chair of the Board of 

Trustees,” Ashley said. “I look forward to helping support continued growth and learning at Durham Tech.”

Newton owns Newton Instrument Company and has been involved with the College in numerous ways over the years, including serving on the Board of Trustees since 2020.

“My family has deep ties to the College,” Newton said. “I am so proud to be a part of this institution, the truly meaningful work it does and the difference it makes in this community. I am looking forward to my new role on the board.”
