Durham Technical Community College recently celebrated two major construction milestones with the placement of the highest structural beams at two campus facilities, marking significant progress in the College’s continued investment in student learning and workforce development across the region.
The ceremonial “topping-out” events took place at separate Durham Tech campuses as construction crews placed the final steel beams atop the College’s expanded Orange County Campus and Main Campus’s new Health Sciences building. The milestones symbolize the transition from structural construction to the next phases of interior and exterior development.
At each event, College leaders, trustees, faculty, staff, construction partners, and community stakeholders gathered to sign the beams before they were lifted into place by crane.
The new facilities are designed to provide modern instructional spaces, advanced technology, and flexible learning environments that support Durham Tech’s growing enrollment and evolving academic programs. Once completed, the buildings will enhance hands-on workforce training, student support services, and community engagement initiatives.
Construction teams highlighted the strong coordination required to reach the topping-out stage safely and on schedule. The projects involve partnerships among architects, engineers, contractors, and college leadership working together to create innovative learning environments for future generations of students.
