Image of RoxanneDurham Technical Community College announced Tuesday the hiring of Roxanne Miller as the incoming Vice President and Chief Institutional Advancement Officer who will lead the Durham Tech Foundation. Miller currently serves as the Senior Director of Development at the Wake Tech Foundation.

As Vice President and Chief Institutional Advancement Officer, Miller will be responsible for guiding Durham Tech’s institutional advancement efforts to achieve the College’s strategic priorities and institutional goals. The Durham Tech Foundation provides opportunities for investments from the community to assist the College in meeting its most critical institutional and instructional needs. The Foundation engages with corporate, foundation, and individual donors to directly impact student success, employee development, program and facility enhancements, and other advancement needs.

Miller brings more than 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector and an exceptional understanding of community college resource development and private foundation grants management. At Wake Tech, Miller oversees their development and planned giving program and works with the philanthropic community to secure gifts and investments to advance the mission of the college. Prior to her role at Wake Tech, she served as Development Manager at the Poe Center for Health Education. Miller received her Nonprofit Management Certificate from Duke University and Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Maine.

“I am excited to be joining Durham Tech at a time of such incredible momentum and growth, and I cannot imagine working for a greater cause. Durham Tech is this community’s college, singularly focused on supporting the residents of Durham and Orange County, and it is working hard to make education, training, and a pathway to prosperity available for all who want it. I am grateful to be joining a community that truly values helping each other. It will take all of us, and partnerships with our local businesses and philanthropic leaders, to create the opportunities this region needs to grow and thrive,” said Miller.

Miller joins Durham Tech at a time when the College is looking to make progress on a variety of fronts, including increased rates of completion and labor market success for students, new partnerships with educational and employer partners, new facilities to support pathways to the healthcare and life sciences sectors, and the development of affordable housing near Main Campus in Durham. Miller’s leadership of the Foundation will be critical to garnering the resources to support these priorities.

“Roxanne Miller is the right person at the right time for Durham Tech. The College is excited to welcome someone of Roxanne Miller’s experience and proven impact. She emerged from a pool of great candidates from across the country as an individual committed to and capable of driving the Foundation and College’s aspirations for student success and community impact,” said J.B. Buxton, President of Durham Tech.

Miller will begin her role at Durham Tech on January 17.
