Durham Tech, Meredith announce guaranteed admission partnership to benefit transfer students
Durham Tech and Meredith College announced Oct. 21 details of their Meredith Strong Futures assured admission program to enhance their transfer partnership and provide more supports to ensure student success.

The new guaranteed admission partnership will provide a seamless transfer pathway and affordable tuition options for Durham Tech graduates who have earned an associate degree and maintained a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher. By offering financial assistance, Meredith aims to increase accessibility and academic opportunities.
The Meredith Strong Futures program includes:
- Guaranteed admission for eligible students.
- Dedicated transfer advising.
- Early academic planning.
- Transfer credit evaluation.
- A minimum of $10,000 in Meredith institutional financial assistance for eligible full-time students.
- Individualized support throughout the transfer process.
“Here is what we know about what Meredith and their Strong Futures program: It is best practice in transfer programs,” said Durham Tech President J.B. Buxton. “Guaranteeing admission, dedicating transfer advising early, early academic planning for our students, robust transfer credit, which is not always the case, and significant financial commitment to our students. Our students, when they finish with us and look at Meredith will know it is possible.”
During Wednesday’s signing ceremony to formalize the new partnership, Meredith President Aimee Sapp reiterated the college’s commitment to helping students achieve success, and how the partnership with Durham Tech is a vital part of that mission.
“This agreement is really about Meredith, saying very clearly that transfer students are central to who we are and central to the students we want to work with,” Sapp said.
Camilla Egelund, a Durham Tech graduate and Meredith student, spoke at the signing ceremony about her experience and what the enhancements will mean to students.
While the Denmark native did not benefit from the Strong Futures program, she knows the “hand up” will help many who want to make Meredith their place of learning. In 2025, Egelund was awarded a full scholarship to Meredith.
“I did not think about Meredith,” Egelund said. “I thought it too expensive, but when I was awarded the Meredith Presidential Transfer Scholarship, I began to consider it. The more I learned about the college the more excited I became. I was drawn to the small class sizes and the personal relationships you have with professors, which I was already enjoying at Durham Tech. Meredith has been all I’ve hoped for and more. I am grateful to Durham Tech for giving me a strong foundation and surrounding me with people who believe in me. And to Meredith College, which opened the door and gave me the opportunity to continue my education. And that is why this partnership means a lot to me. This agreement gives students a clear path towards their dream.”
