Durham Technical Community College Executive Director for the Center for the Global Learning, Dr. Constanza Gómez-Joines has been appointed to serve on the Durham County Hospital Corporation Board of Trustees.
Gómez-Joines serves as the Executive Director for the Center for the Global Leaner (CGL) and Special Assistant for Hispanic Community Engagement at Durham Tech.
The Durham County Hospital Corporation Board of Trustees is a 15-member board who are responsible for planning and coordinating for Duke Regional Hospital and the health care system.
“I am honored and humbled by my appointment to the Durham County Hospital Corporation Board of Trustees. It is a great responsibility that I will proudly carry out. I plan to represent our community members to the Board in order to bring continuous awareness of their specific needs,” said Gómez-Joines.
The Center was established in Fall 2009 to support the College’s vision of fostering intercultural understanding and the development of engaged global citizens. The CGL also leads and facilitates global engagement and intercultural understanding.
Gómez-Joines also oversees the English as a Second Language department, Continuing Education for Non-Native English Speakers department, the Academic English as a Foreign Language department, and the Translation/Interpretation programs. Additionally, Gómez-Joines manages Study Abroad and International Student Services.
Gómez-Joines was born in Lima, Peru but considers her home Buenos Aires, Argentina, after moving to six different countries before the age of nine and relocating to Florida at the age of 13. She said she enjoys working in outreach and educational opportunities for the immigrants in our community, and initiatives such as international partnerships.
Gómez-Joines will serve two three-year terms in the Community Representative seat.
