The program began this fall and is housed at the new Durham Tech location at the American Tobacco Campus (ATC) in downtown Durham. A kitchen at the ATC site will be named for the NC Subway Group.

“This partnership aligns perfectly with our brand and local corporate values and mission. As the largest restaurant chain in the world and a brand committed to providing opportunities to many, we are thrilled to help foster growth in the culinary and hospitality industry,” said Tim Mann, NC Subway™ Group Chief Operating Officer.

Funds from the grant Subway awarded the Durham Tech Foundation will provide critical start-up funding toward personnel, supplies and equipment, and work-based learning stipends for student internships in restaurant management. A goal of the grant is to also support faculty in developing classes and community partnerships focused around healthy meal preparation.

“Our community is eager to see the Durham Tech culinary program thrive in downtown Durham. This generous commitment from NC Subway™ Group will ensure that our program is equipped for success,” said Melissa Chappell, Executive Director of the Durham Tech Foundation.

The downtown location offers classes in the Culinary Arts Associate Degree and Restaurant Management Certificate programs.
