Durham Tech and William Peace University officially signed an agreement April 14 to establish assured admission and preferred pricing for qualified Durham Tech graduates through the Peace Pathways Transfer Program.
Through the program, eligible Durham Tech graduates who earn an associate degree and then transfer to Peace will receive a special tuition rate of $5,000 per semester (fall and spring). Students remain eligible for financial aid assistance.
The College and University also have streamlined the application and admission process for qualified Durham Tech graduates. Durham Tech associate degree graduates who meet program requirements will be automatically admitted without an application fee. They also will receive an admissions response within seven business days after applying.
“We are so proud and honored to partner with Durham Tech to help students achieve their goals and complete their four-year degrees at Peace,” Peace President Lynn Morton said. “Both Durham Tech and Peace value access to a high-quality education, and we recognize the transformational and ... generational power of that access."
Durham Tech President J.B. Buxton said the shared values are key to the relationship.
“Our students need a seamless transition when transferring from Durham Tech to a four-year institution. Peace’s transfer graduation rates and employment rates — you can’t find something more competitive,” Buxton said. “It’s also about making a commitment to financial access. A lot of our students find themselves moving over that transfer bridge and having obstacles to financially getting there. Peace has made a significant commitment to make sure financial access will not be a barrier for Durham Tech transfer students.”
Raul Diaz, who is graduating from Durham Tech and plans to transfer to Peace, said the partnership was a game changer for him.
“This partnership means a lot to me,” he told those attending the signing event. “I’m the first member in my family to go to college. For several years I struggled to get back to school. The staff at Durham Tech, the staff here at Peace, have made it so easy.”
