Reading COLORful Books: A book with a color in the title
Consult your color wheel or box of crayons and choose a book with a color in the title to complete your Read Great Things 2021 Challenge. If you're into double-dipping, we have a lot of really excellent books about race and racial justice that would also count as A book about social justice or equity with black or white in the title. We also have a good number of green books in our Phail Wynn Collection on the Main Campus. These are just a few of the options available through the Durham Tech
Library Newsletters for Everyone!
Almost 80% of our classes are online, but the library still has in-person services available when we're open. Want to know what's going on with the library this semester? Check out our newsletters. There's one for Students and one for Employees. Click on the images below to see the full newsletter.
New Books and a New Movie
We are pleased to add the Oscar nominated and Golden Globe winning film Boyhood. The film follows a boy named Mason and his family as he experiences the pleasure and pain of growing up. Notable for being filmed with the same cast over a 12 year period, we can watch as the actors themselves grow with the roles they play. [caption id="attachment_1153" align="aligncenter" width="209"] Boyhood[/caption] Also, this month we have a great crop of new books for your reading pleasure. [gallery type=
Forum on Women in Leadership
The U.S. National Archives, in conjunction with the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, is producing a forum on women in leadership online. Watch the forum live here or on their YouTube channel today at 7:30pm, or stream it afterwards when you have time. The description of the forum is below. "From the early days of the Civil Rights movement, African American women have worked and served in numerous and influential leadership roles. What are their experiences and
What We're Reading: The Shining Girls
The book was read by Meredith Lewis, a Librarian at (mostly) the Orange County Campus Library. The library copy of this book is available downstairs in the Main Campus Library. [caption id="attachment_3077" align="aligncenter" width="200"] The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes[/caption] Why did you choose to read this book? I read another one of Lauren Beukes' books, Zoo City and really liked it. When I realized we had The Shining Girls in our collection, I went ahead and checked it out because I'd

Fascinating Medical Memoirs
The library has a display on the lower level of medical memoirs written from the perspective of patients, nurses, doctors, and health care workers. We also feature a few related DVDs as well. A few of these titles are at the Orange County campus. Just let us know if you want to have a title sent over to your campus. Out Loud in the Library: Episode 3
This week in Out Loud in the Library I spoke with Charmaine Grafton, President of the Student Government Association. For all those who have met her, you already know she is a delightful and authentic person. It was a pleasure to get to speak to her and learn about what the SGA is up to this year. They are adapting to the online environment admirably. But, I don't need to tell you that. You can listen for yourself!
Out Loud in the Library- Episode 4 with Jes Dormady
Hello, hello, hello! A new episode of Out Loud in the Library: A Durham Tech Library Podcast has been published today! I interviewed Jes Dormady about the Campus Harvest Food Pantry. Listen to the episode to hear how the food pantry has adjusted to Covid-19, what kinds of items are available at the pantry, and the best way to support the important work they are doing. Freezer, anyone? And, as always, episode transcripts are available on our podbean site. And, since you're already listening to
