With the end of the Fall Semester just around the weekend and Winter Break almost upon us, we're adapting our hours while class isn't in session. Great new resource for debates and pro/con research
Opposing Viewpoints in Context is an online resource covering today’s important social issues such as computer hacking, immigration, same-sex marriage, and voting rights. The differing viewpoints present each side of an issue and help students develop critical thinking skills and draw their own conclusions. Content includes viewpoint articles, newspaper, magazine and academic journal articles, videos, audio, recommended websites, graphics, and statistics. It's an excellent place to begin
Listen Up! : Free Audiobooks for your enjoyment
Like YA and/or classic literature? Like audiobooks? Like free things? Every summer, AudioFile's Sync summer "reading" program provides free weekly downloads of two audiobooks: one contemporary YA book and one work of classic literature that relates to the same theme. Did you know that Americans read an average of 12 books per year?* Want to overachieve or just set a goal for yourself to be above average in 2020? Good news! The Durham Tech Library is here to support your reading goals with the Above Average Reading Challenge: 20 Books in 2020. How to I participate? To participate, you just start reading! You don’t have to sign up and you can start and finish at any point in 2020. Twenty books is roughly one book every two weeks if you want to space this out
Open Education Week: March 4-8, 2019
There are worldwide events and webinars this week to increase awareness about textbook costs as barriers to education and the potential for technology to enhance teaching and learning. Durham Tech Library advocates for Open Educational Resources and provides support for faculty and staff interested in exploring OER. May is always Mental Health Month, but due to the stresses and uncertainties a lot of us are facing, it seems particularly important this year. There are lots of ways to attend to your own mental health needs and for many, meditation and yoga or other mindfulness practices may be beneficial.
