Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts
The Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) is intended for students who ultimately wish to complete a baccalaureate fine arts degree (BFA or BAFA) within four years. AFA curriculum courses focus on visual arts but the degree also includes general education offerings that emphasize the development of analytical skills, written and oral communication, and competencies in math and science.

When you walk into First Chronicles Daycare in Durham, you see cheerful, organized, educational stations for the children who attend. Their names are neatly placed at the table where they sit. There are books and bright colors to stimulate their young minds.
“This is where all the magic happens,” said Pebbles Lucas, who co-founded the five-star daycare on Linwood Avenue in 2008, that her husband, Pastor William Lucas, founded. She has created a safe, loving environment at First Chronicles, where children thrive.
In recognition of her work, Lucas has been named the Child Care Services Association 2024 recipient of the prestigious Mary Y. Bridgers Early Childhood Teacher Award.
News: Durham Tech celebrates 10th Electric Line Technician graduating class
More than 50 people gathered at the Durham Technical Community College Northern Durham Center Friday to celebrate the 10th Electric Line Technician graduating cohort.

The Electric Line program started in Spring 2019 out of a partnership with Duke Energy that funded students to participate in the program at no cost, and which covers registration, tuition, fees, and equipment. 

The most recent cohort started class on March 28 and the program lasted for 10 weeks. Students learned to climb poles, install equipment, safety codes and applications, overhead and underground electric line construction practices and more. Students also received their CDL permit by taking an online Saturday class for five weeks prior to the Electric Line class beginning.

The Durham County Board of Commissioners passed the 2022-23 budget Monday night. The budget includes an increased scholarship opportunities for Durham Tech students, stipends for participants in the BULLS biotechnology initiative, and a three-year commitment for 911 Academy funding, among other operational expenses. In addition to the budget, the Board approved a bond referendum for this year for a new health sciences building, a life sciences training facility, and property acquisition funding.
