Every September, the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) hosts Hill Day as an opportunity for thousands of Occupational Therapy students from across the country to travel to Washington, D.C., and voice their advocacy for occupational therapy.
Hill Day began in 1999, and about 10 years ago, Durham Tech’s Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) students began to participate.
All second-year students are welcome to attend Hill Day as a chance to complete their advocacy assignment required for OTA 245 Professional Skills III.

Two Durham Tech students were recently selected to be a part of the Uproar Festival of Public Art contest. Both Archer Fralix, a fine arts student, and Stu Beavers, in the welding program, started formal training in their art at the College, and while they may work in different mediums, they both have a passion for public art.
Dual enrollment is a unique educational opportunity that allows high school students to enroll in college-level courses while still attending high school. It offers a bridge between secondary and postsecondary education, giving students a taste of college life and academics before officially starting their higher education journey.
Students who ultimately wish to complete a baccalaureate of arts degree at a four-year college or university would complete the Associate in Arts (AA) degree. Students in this program develop foundational knowledge particularly in business, English, fine arts, foreign languages, history, philosophy, psychology, or sociology.
In 1984, Robert L. Lyon and Elizabeth Reeves Lyon created the Lyon Merit Achievement Scholarship to support hard-working Durham Tech students. What began as a simple act of generosity grew into a scholarship that, over more than 40 years, has shaped the educational journeys of nearly 80 students. Today, the Robert L. Lyon and Elizabeth Reeves Lyon Memorial Scholarship is fully endowed and continues to generate enough income to award three to four scholarships every year — support that will last in perpetuity.
