A Durham Tech - Wake Tech Collaboration to Power the Life Sciences Workforce in RTP
Durham Tech and Wake Tech launched RTP Bio, a new workforce development collaboration that unites biotechnology, biomanufacturing, clinical trials, and industrial systems talent pipelines of the two community colleges in the Research Triangle Park region. RTP Bio provides a seamless face for regional biotech employers in addressing their employment demands and fosters a greater collective impact.
Durham Tech and Wake Tech have committed to developing joint efforts to deliver short-term workforce credentialing; customized workforce training; development of apprenticeship programs; and pathways for high school students. In addition, the collaborative provides career development and employment preparation services across both colleges and counties.

- Affordable Education & Scholarships
Community Colleges offers competitive tuition rates to make it easier to pursue your passion without financial strain. In addition, many colleges have scholarships or financial assistance programs to help students pay course tuition and fees.
- 1+1 Articulation Agreements
In North Carolina, the "1+1 articulation" concept often refers to a transfer pathway where a student completes courses at a community college that will articulate credit at a four-year institution. This is primarily governed by the statewide Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (CAA). This statewide CAA is an agreement between the NC Community College System (NCCCS) and the UNC System. It guarantees that if you complete an associate in arts (AA) or associate in science (AS) degree at a community college (such as Durham Technical Community College or Wake Technical Community College), your qualifying credits will transfer seamlessly as a rising junior to any of the 16 public UNC universities.
Additionally, some programs may have bilateral agreements in place with certain universities to allow Associate in Applied Sciences degree programs to also articulate credit at a four-year institution.
- Customized Training for Industry
Through North Carolina’s NCEdge Customized Training Program, Durham Tech works alongside eligible businesses and industries in Durham and Orange counties to provide tailored training solutions to help employees upskill, reskill, and learn new skills. The Customized Training Program provides resources that may support needs assessment, curriculum design, training delivery, and instructional materials for employees.
