Did you know that Durham Tech students, faculty and staff can use Statistical Abstracts of the United States online? You might be familiar with the book version, which is published annually. Now, you can access the same information online via NC LIVE. Statistical Abstracts of the United States is presented as "the authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political and economic conditions of the United States," according to ProQuest, who maintains the database. For a bit of background history on why elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, see this article on NPR. During the 2008 elections Nate Silver began making a name for himself by using statistics to more accurately predict election results. The library has a copy of his book, The Signal and the Noise: Why So Many Predictions Fail But Some Don't, available under call number CB 158 .S54 2012. You can search using your own keywords, search specific journals by title, or browse by science type or journal title. Additionally, over 1.2 million articles on ScienceDirect are Open Access, meaning they are peer-reviewed and made freely available for everyone to read, download, and reuse
