The Durham Tech Library is a member of the Dogwood Digital Library, a collection of online ebooks and audiobooks through the Overdrive/Libby app. Durham Tech faculty, staff, and students can check out books using their Durham Tech username and password, just like they can access databases off-campus. Loaner AND Keeper Chromebooks (and Calculators and Portable Monitors): Digital Champion Grant Update
In December 2025, the Durham Tech Library began distributing "keeper" Chromebooks to qualifying students as the final part of our NC DIT Digital Champion Grant. Our first sixteen students who have picked up their keeper Chromebook (and the others who have qualified) expressed interest in the program on their intake or renewal form, demonstrated need by borrowing a loaner laptop for two terms or more, and met progression goals according to their program. Hailing from Denmark, Durham Tech student Camilla Egelund arrived in Durham three years ago to work as an au pair for an American family with three children.
“I was going to do one year with the family but fell in love with them, so I stayed a second year,” Egelund said.
Her visa was up after year two, but she wanted to stay in Durham with her family longer, so she began looking at options to make that happen.
“I wasn’t ready to go back to Denmark. I loved my family and Durham,” she said. “Studying in the U.S. had always been a dream of mine, but it did not seem realistic so finding out I could stay here and start at a community college right in Durham was the start of it all for me.”

The wise words of Dr. Phail Wynn, Jr. filled the DPAC auditorium during Durham Tech’s 2018 commencement ceremony.
“Each of you has vast amounts of untapped potential that has not been discovered or has not been developed simply because the circumstances of your life have never called them forth,” said Wynn, the third president of Durham Tech. “You have barely scratched the surface of your deep reservoir of hidden talent. Use your knowledge and skills wisely, to the benefit and betterment of your community and of society as a whole.”
His passion for higher education was a constant in his life.
