Reading Great SHORT Things!
Start 2021 and the Read Great Things 2021 Challenge off right and mark your short book off the list. What counts as a short book? Good question. For people who read 900 page books, a 500 pager is going to be a brief adventure, right? We're willing to be flexible with the definition of "short," but in general if you want some guidelines, aim for 250 pages or fewer or about 6 hours or shorter for an audiobook. But wait! What if the audiobook of a short book is longer than 6 hours? Does that count

It's an all-encompassing theatrical experience*. *Stage fright not included. Continue reading to see what the fuss is all about! When you navigate to Digital Theater+ (off
Happy retirement to Irene Laube!
The library staff want to thank Irene Laube for her 27 years of service to Durham Tech Libraries. She began her career with the college as a part-time reference librarian in 1989, transitioned to Coordinator of Library Services, Director, and now retires, June 1, 2017 as Associate Dean. April Is Poetry Month! An Interview with Faculty Poet, Bridget Bell
April is Poetry Month and we're thrilled to highlight a new publication by Durham Tech English instructor Bridget Bell. Her book is available at both the Main and Orange County Campus Libraries. Check out Bridget's awesome interviews with The Independent Weekly and streaming on WUNC's Due South radio show. When did you begin writing poetry? How did you decide to write a book of poetry? I’ve written poetry since I was a little kid. There are some embarrassingly earnest and angsty poems in my
Resources for evaluating news sources and avoiding fake news

You'll find links to videos, infographics, articles, books, ebooks, handouts, games and activities, a research study from Stanford, and much more! http://durhamtech.libguides.com/infolit Feel free to link this guide to your Sakai course sites and share with students. We also have some new books in the library for further reading and discussion on this important topic: [caption id=
Space! At the Library!
Have you seen the new images of space from the James Webb Telescope? We have and we're excited! In addition to birds, octopuses, dinosaurs, plants, chess, cats, football, real estate, kelp, swimming, astrology, funny internet graphics, The Beatles, and art (to name a few of our department's enthusiastic specific interests), we also like space! Keep reading for some resources to learn more about space and even a little fiction to expand your imagination. Watch a variety of streaming videos from
Let's Talk Money!
April is Financial Literacy Month! What's that? April is almost over? Better late than never! Sometimes the most useful pieces of financial literacy are how to negotiate initial salary or pay raises, how to get that public service loan forgiveness, how to reduce medical bills (ask for that bill to be itemized), and other things that involve more than teaching someone how to open a checking account. See below for resources Durham Tech and the library offer for helping you handle your money. Allow
What We're Listening To: Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown
Emotional intelligence is HARD, but being able to identify where your emotions are coming from and actually having the language to identify those emotions (and the differences between them) can help. This book was read via audiobook by Meredith Lewis, the (mostly) Orange County Campus Librarian. Title: Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of Human Experience Author and Narrator: Brené Brown Genre: Psychology, Social Science, Self-Help/Awareness/Mindfulness Read
